Come to the Lord’s Table

(Sunday Sermon - April 7, 2023)

Promise: (Matthew 17:20 KJV)

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Introduction: Do you know that you can ask God for a long, good, and healthy life? While you are hearing these words you could be sick. The scan reports are discouraging. You can talk to the mountain of sickness to flee away from you. You can be in trouble. You can speak to your situation, and it will go away.

(2 Corinthians 4:18 KJV)  While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

The enemy uses the visible things to scare you. The debts you are in. They are temporary. The things of God are eternal. When some diseases come, you believe God has sent it to teach you a lesson and chastise you. This thought has allowed believers to allow sickness in their bodies.

My friend, God is not the author of sickness and disease. Sickness and disease came when Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Death came into this world because Adam sinned.

(Romans 6:23 KJV)  For the wages of sin is death;

The good news is that our savior did not just die for our sins but for our sicknesses also. We have the blood of Jesus washing our sins. Also, we have His stripes to heal us.

(Isaiah 53:5 KJV)  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Death Entry:

Sickness and death entered this world and in all of us by one man eating from the wrong tree. I believe health and life can come by eating right. This is the communion table Jesus has ordained.

  • Is it God’s will to heal me?
  • Do I qualify for His healing power?
  • What should I do if I am sick?
  • Is God punishing me with sickness and disease?
  • Of what relevance is the holy Communion to me?
  • Can God heal my loved ones?
  • How can I have a long, healthy life?
  • What should I do when I don’t see results?

In answering these questions, I don’t want to share my personal opinions with you. I want to show you the everlasting promises of God. What God has done to the people who believed in Him. There are people in our church who are taking daily communion after hearing my teaching. We serve communion in our early morning prayers.

Health is Wealth:

Salvation is the greatest you and I have got in our Lord.

(Gal 3:13 KJV)  Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree:

After having the gift of salvation, you have a good family. Some sickness or disease comes to you. Even if you could afford to spend it, it bothers you. After salvation, the greatest thing you can have is health.

I am sure that God wants you and me to enjoy good health and live joyfully in Him.

(Act 10:38 KJV)  How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Jesus did not calm the storm or silence the raging waters all the time. But wherever He went He was healing the people. He healed the people all the time.

Guilt Trip:

I was taught to “examine myself” before coming to the

Lord’s Table and warned not to partake of the holy Communion if there was sin in my life that made me unworthy. I was told that if I did, it would bring judgement on myself. I would become weak and sickly, and I might even die before my time. As a result, I was so fearful of the Communion I never partook in it.

After all, I was no fool. Why would I want to risk it? I wasn’t living in sin or anything like that, but what if there was some sin in my life I didn’t know about or had forgotten to confess? To make matters worse, I was told I could commit not just sins of commission (things I did), but also sins of omission (things I failed to do), and even sins of

transmission (sins committed by my ancestors). How could I

ever know if I was “worthy” enough? So, I did not participate because of fear. It is just a misinterpretation of scripture.

Communion Scripture:

(1 Corinthians 11:27-30 KJV)  27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

Somehow, people have misunderstood verses 27 and 29 and have taught that we cannot partake of the Communion if we are “unworthy” because of our sins. But Jesus’ blood has already been shed for us, and as believers, we are the righteousness of God in Christ.

(2 Corinthians  5:21 KJV)  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

We are completely righteous and worthy not because we are perfect, but because He is perfect. Now I want to make it clear that I am against sin. But we don’t have to be perfect to come to the Lord’s Table. If that were a prerequisite, no one would be able to partake! You might not think you have committed any serious or major sins, but to God, sin is sin, and if you fail in even one area, you are counted guilty of all.

(James 2:10 KJV)  For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Thank God that even when we fail, we have “redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.”

(Ephesians 1:7 KJV)  In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

(1 Corinthians  11:20 KJV)   When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord’s supper.

(1 Corinthians  11:21 KJV)  For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.

(1 Corinthians  11:22 KJV)  What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.

The believers had taken communion meal as an ordinary meal not knowing the significance. For us today, to partake of the Communion in an unworthy manner is to be like the Corinthian church,

treating the elements of the Communion as common, insignificant, and powerless. It is to treat the Communion elements as natural and ordinary and to fail to recognize the potent, sacred force we get to hold in our hands. It is to disdain the elements and to be like the children of Israel, who got so familiar with the manna God in His grace

if they saw the bread from heaven as worthless

(Numbers 21:5 KJV)  And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.

It is to simply go through the motions of eating the bread and taking the cup without valuing the significance and power they contain.

Frequency of Communion: You partake in communion once or twice in a month. You partake in communion daily and know the significance.

(Hosea 4:6 KJV)  My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

Fountain of Youth:

Take communion as a food and a medicine.

(Psalm 103:5 KJV)  Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Every time I partake in communion, I believe that my strength is being renewed like the eagle.

 Judgement on Earth:

The earth has been under divine judgement ever since Adam sinned. Aging, disease, and death are all part of this divine sentence. The reality is, we live in a fallen world and these effects of the divine sentence are happening to all our mortal bodies. But God never intended for His children to suffer any of it. That is why He sent His Son to bear our sins and sicknesses on the cross. That is why He provided the holy Communion to escape divine judgement.

that is on this world, to offset its effects. Holy Communion is a supernatural channel for His health and wholeness to flow into our bodies. While the world is getting weaker and sicker, I believe we are getting stronger and healthier each time we partake of Communion by faith!

Early Church:

(Acts 20:7 KJV)  And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

Partake in communion with the Finished work of Jesus on the cross.

God is amid your trial.

If you are fighting a medical condition, please know that it is okay for you to have doubts and questions. The Lord knows the confusion and pain you feel, and He wants you to know He is with you through it all. I know it can be hard to keep trusting Him when you are going through a fiery trial. But keep trusting Him, my friend. He is, right now, your very present help.

(Psalm 46:1 KJV)  God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Keep fixing your eyes on Him. He is faithful, and He will never leave you nor forsake you.

(Deuteronomy 31:6  KJV)  Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

 Fiery Trial:

Daniel 3 records the story of three friends (Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego), who were bound and thrown into a fiery furnace when they refused to bow to and worship the gold image set up by King Nebuchadnezzar. The furnace was so hot that the men who threw them in were killed by the heat. But the king saw the three friends walking in the midst of the fire, and he saw a fourth man with them who was “like the Son of God.”

(Daniel 3:25 KJV)  He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

Amazed, the king called them out, and he and all his officials saw that the fire had had no power over them. Not a single hair on them was singed, their clothes were not scorched or damaged, and there was not even the smell of smoke on them. As a result, the king acknowledged that there was no other God who could deliver like their God, and the three friends were not only released, but they were also promoted.

Beloved, your Lord Jesus has promised that “nothing shall by any means hurt you”

(Luke 10:19 KJV)  Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Even if you are going through a trial, He will deliver you. Just as He was in the fire with Daniel’s three friends, He is with you. I pray in Jesus’ name you will emerge from this trial so much stronger than

before you went in. I declare that this disease shall have no power over you, and that the Lord will deliver you so completely you will come out of this without even the smell of smoke on you!

You will emerge from your fiery trial stronger than you entered in.

How to escape being weak and sick: Jesus shed his blood for the remission of our sins. He shed his body for our healing. We need to separate the two.

 (Psalm 103:3 KJV)  Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
