Praying according to the Will of God-1

(Sunday Sermon - Dec 10, 2023)

In case of an emergency, speak only in English.

Never say prayers in any other language.

You never know what kind of translation problem you can run into.

An Indian in the US suffered a heart attack on the road and was picked up by an ambulance.

Being religious, he kept repeating – Hari Om, Hari Om, Hari Om.

When the ambulance pulled into his home, his wife came out and screamed to the paramedics: ‘Why didn’t you take him straight to the hospital?’ They replied “Because he kept saying, ‘Hurry home Hurry home Hurry home!’

(Mar 1:37 NIV) and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!” There were people with all kinds of problems, sicknesses and needs. Lord, today I am looking for you. There are people here who are in debt. Those of you who have come with diseases, sickness and pain look for Jesus. You have come here with worries. Your family is not together. You are not able to control your lustful thoughts. You are falling into sin, having struggles in life. Invite Jesus into your problems and challenges.

In the world, they have made gods to look up to. If they need wealth, a god. If the need is knowledge, courage they have separate gods for them. To the god they ask for wealth, they cannot ask for knowledge. But all that you need, you can look and ask Jesus. Jesus said (Mat 7:7 NIV) “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. (Mat 7:8 NIV) For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Say: I ask and will receive. I seek and find Him. I knock, the door will be opened.

(Mat 7:11 NIV) If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Everyone was looking for Jesus but they could find Him only in Jesus’ place of prayer.ie. A businessman came to Bro. Mohan Lazarus. He was weeping. He was a successful man. He said when all was going well, I had a heart attack. I underwent a surgery. The doctors have told me I cannot work and do my business as before. I feel tired. Brother Mohan asked “what do you want me to pray for?” God gave you a new heart when you were 14 years old and prayed to Jesus. If God can give you, He can give me a new heart. Pray for that. During prayer he felt God touched him. That tiredness left, palpitation was gone. God had given him a new heart. God has spare parts for all your organs.

Time and Place of Prayer: (Mar 1:35 NIV) Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

  1. That the Saviour, though perfectly holy, regarded the duty of secret prayer as of great importance. Those who seek a holy God and seek holiness will pray. I.e. I heard about a brother who got baptised recently. He is busy with job after the lockdown, competing with others. He fears he would lose the job. He is living in fear and distress. (Mat 6:33 NIV) But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Know where your job and salary is coming from.
  1. That he sought a solitary place for it – far away from the world and even from his disciples. Withdrawing not only from the multitude, but even from his disciples; for the company of the best friends is not always seasonable or acceptable.
  1. That it was early in the morning – always the best time, and a time when it should not be omitted.
  1. If Jesus prayed, how much more important is it for us!

David said (Psa 5:3 NIV) in the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. ie. Pastor. John Samuel who taught on the parables of Jesus had challenges while ministering. He told about his daughter’s neuro TB and broke down. She fell unconscious in Ukraine. She is 19 years old. We prayed for her. She is conscious and undergoing treatment. Brother. Kevin’s uncle and having 80% lung infection are much better and from icu come to the normal ward. Continue to pray for his aunt.

(Psa 119:147 NIV) I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word. I anticipated it; I rose up to pray before the morning dawned. I put my trust in your word- promises- (Gen 12:2 NIV) “.. I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. (Deu 28:4 NIV) The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock–the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. (Deu 28:5 NIV) Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. (Deu 28:6 NIV) You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.

  1. What does the Bible command us to pray for?
    1. For enemies: (Mat 5:44 NIV) But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. ie tomatoes rotten.
    2. For Missionaries: (Luk 10:2 NIV) He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.
    3. For Temptations: (Mat 26:41 NIV) “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
    4. For Ministers: (Col 4:3 NIV) And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. (2Th 3:1 NIV) As for other matters, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honoured, just as it was with you.
    5. For Government Authorities: (1Ti 2:1-3 NIV) I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people–for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour.
    6. For Relief from Affliction: (Jas 5:13 NIV) Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.
    7. For Fellow Believers: (Jas 5:16 NIV) Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
